The Sanada family extended their territory to the east, taking over Numata, in Kozuke province in 1580 from Hojo's hand. The Sanada were still neutral until Takeda Katsuyori committed suicide in 1582, the Takeda territory fell to Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1583 (during the civil war between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie).
